At the annual meeting of the Seventh Day Baptist Historical Society on May 17th, 2015, at the Seventh Day Baptist Center in Janesville, WI, the Society voted to affect a corporate merger between itself and the Seventh Day Baptist General Conference of USA & Canada, limited, by a vote of 85-6. The vote centered on the adoption of the documents which will make the merger official. Society members were given the opportunity to vote either in person or by proxy.
The next step in the completion of the merger process will take place at the corporate meetings of the SDB General Conference the week of July 26-August 1, 2015, at Lancaster Bible College; Lancaster, PA, when the General Conference in session will vote with respect to the merger. If the merger vote is successful at Conference, the two organizations will legally finalize the merger, likely sometime early in 2016, which is the 100th anniversary of the Society’s founding in 1916.
The Society considered this process of merger after a recommendation came from the General Conference to that effect. After several years of study and conversation amongst the Society members, the Society has voted to assent to the request of the Conference.
