Lauren Kinlocke of the Fort Lauderdale, FL, SDB Church, has served as the General Council Secretary for the last 16 months. She took notes, asked clarifying questions, and created helpful minutes. As she served, she traveled to our in-person meetings, ate with us, laughed with us, and prayed with us. We are grateful that she could be part of the group and deeply appreciate her service.
We say for all to hear: Lauren, thank you! Thank you for taking on the task as a volunteer and for devoting your time, energy, and talent to getting the job done.
At our August virtual meeting, your General Council reviewed the volunteer role of the General Council secretary and has decided to assign, for this season, the responsibility of capturing minutes to an elected or ex-officio member of the General Council.
Bringing the responsibility in-house allows General Council to develop the practical experience necessary to balance the cost (travel, lodging, board) against the advantages (focus and participation in the discussion) of having another person attend the in-person meetings as a volunteer secretary. Should we ever decide again to reach beyond the elected and ex-officio members for secretary responsibility, this experience will help us clarify the responsibilities a General Council secretary should carry.
