It’s a beautiful thing to welcome in a new year with prayer. It’s even sweeter to begin the new year praying with brothers and sisters from around the world. This coming week, we have just that opportunity with the SDB World Federation’s Week of Prayer. SDBs from around the world will be studying devotionally and praying together around this year’s theme, “Breaking Free… Applying Prayer Disciplines,” using a devotional brochure written by Pastor Kevin Carter, Conference President of the SDB Conference in Jamaica. The week of prayer begins this Sunday, January 5, and ends Sabbath, January 11.
This year, in addition to praying generally together, we have the opportunity to pray for specific prayer requests for SDBs in countries where their leaders have submitted them! You can find those prayer requests here.
In his letter to our General Conference encouraging us to join in the Week of Prayer, WF General Secretary Douglas Machado entreated us to “…approach this time with hearts open to intercede for one another, trusting in the power of prayer to strengthen and unite our global community.”
Let us respond together to this request and join in praying with our brothers and sisters around the world, asking that the Lord will give us grace and blessing as well as increased opportunity for service in 2025!

In addition to the week of prayer, this year’s Sabbath Giving Week begins on the first Sabbath of January (this coming Sabbath, January 4th) with the theme, “United in Generosity,” based on 2 Corinthians 8:2-4. If you wish to contribute to the work of the World Federation, you can consult their website for ways to donate. This is another great way to contribute to the cooperative ministry of SDBs around the world.
