Grand Rapids, MI. Seventh Day Baptists are participating in the 2025 Calvin Worship Symposium this week (February 5-7). SDBs from five different congregations have gathered together to participate in this year’s symposium. SDB participation was facilitated by previous work done through SDB Vital Worship and SDB Vital Preaching.
The Calvin Symposium on Worship program offers corporate worship services, prayer times, as well as vespers reflections. There are breakout learning sessions that cover a wide range of topics related to public worship. The symposium is sponsored by the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship and the Center for Excellence in Preaching. SDB participation was also assisted by the SDB Memorial Fund.
Symposium 2025
The Calvin Symposium 2025 is centered on a stated worship theme: “Tradition has long held that the evangelist Luke was a physician. However, given what we find in the gospel of Luke and its sequel, the Acts of the Apostles, Luke was also a highly gifted writer. By the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Luke presented some of the most memorable stories in all of scripture, such as the Annunciation, Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem, the story of Zacchaeus, the road to Emmaus, Pentecost, the Jerusalem Council, and Paul’s shipwreck. But in Luke’s gospel we also find several of Jesus’ best-known parables—stories that despite their renown are found nowhere else in scripture. At Symposium 2025, our services and sermons at the five plenary worship services will focus on some of these beloved parables Jesus uses to teach us so much about the kingdom of God and the grace that saves us.”
The 2025 Calvin Symposium on Worship is located on the campus of Calvin University and Calvin Theological Seminary, located in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
