Welcome to Wisconsin. After 15 hours of flight time, Pastor Canaan Phiri from Malawi and Pastor John Ryakitimbo from Tanzania arrived at O’Hare Airport (Chicago, IL) on Tuesday, April 22nd. Since this is a first visit for both pastors to the Midwest of the United States, it seemed fitting to welcome them with the ice cream of the Midwest (frozen custard). The 2025 SDB Visiting Instructors Program has launched! The first stop is in Janesville, WI where Pastor Canaan and Pastor John are currently participating in activities at the Milton SDB Church, working at the SDB Center, and will be interacting with gathered SDB ministry leaders for The Summit. Pastor Canaan and Pastor John will be part of the team providing presentations, preaching at gathered worship, and leading Bible Studies over the course of the weekend ahead. The Visiting Instructors will be visiting a number of SDB churches and ministries in North America over the coming weeks, with the final stop at Eastern Association in Shiloh, NJ, May 16-18.
For those of you who are concerned about the frozen custard reference and the Midwest, here are some details. While frozen custard appears to have possibly originated in New York, the Midwest is where it has firmly taken root. Milwaukee, WI has been unofficially dubbed the “Frozen Custard Capital of the World” where some claim that it has more custard stands on a per-capita basis than anywhere else in the world.
I will leave it to the SDB ice cream aficionados to determine if custard truly meets, or even exceeds SDB ice cream standards.
