Summer Christian Service Corps Training Directors Announcement

Written by Lora Sweeney

December 17, 2025

The SCSC Committee and the SDB Women’s Society are excited to announce our new Training Directors, starting in the 2026 season! Carl and Cindy Greene bring experience, education and a heart for developing SDB leadership into the position. Cindy is a veteran SCSC student (’96 in Dodge Center, MN) and Dedicated Service worker (’97 in Marlboro, NJ), while Carl served the Berlin, NY church in Dedicated Service (’92-94). Carl said, “I love to learn. SCSC provides me with a wonderful opportunity to learn and be a part of a learning community. My sense of lifetime calling is to invest in people so they increasingly recognize, grow and live out their God-given skills, talents and abilities.”

In just a few short months, Carl and Cindy will be working with SCSC students in pre-training activities. Carl said, “There are two great opportunities as a student: to join God in specific missional work and to experience personal growth and leadership capacity building. SCSC offers an invitation to serve God in specific roles across weeks in the summer while also entering a season of learning, growth and spiritual stretching.”

SDB churches who host SCSC students will benefit from the hard work and preparation Carl and Cindy will pour into the students. Discussing church involvement, Carl observed, “Churches should host SCSC students because it is potentially a helpful part of living as a healthy church. There is a two-way aspect of this healthy engagement. On the one hand, developing a project for SCSC students helps the church identify missional work and engagement that God is calling the church into over a specific time period. Taking the time and discipline to map out a multi-week missional project for an SCSC team helps the church refine God’s call in this season. On the other hand, churches build their sending capacity through hosting an SCSC team. The New Testament witness points to healthy churches sending out leaders and missionaries. SCSC provides churches with an opportunity to invest deeply in Emerging Leaders this summer.”

We are asking for denomination-wide involvement in SCSC 2026. You can participate in several ways…as a student (college-age young adults), a host church, a prayer warrior, or a financial supporter. Carl stated, “I am firmly convinced that God is inviting SDBs to live into and proclaim His Good News all the more. SCSC is a key opportunity to lean into this invitation that shapes the trajectory of our mission as a Conference of SDB churches. SCSC is a key place to invest in gospel change in our own individual lives, among Emerging Leaders, in local SDB churches, and the Conference as a whole.”

SCSC students are encouraged to apply by January 15, 2026 by going to www.sdbwomen.org. You can find the church applications there as well, due by February 15, 2026. We are excited to discover what God has planned for SCSC 2026!
