After many years of hard work and commitment to the Seventh Day Baptist General Conference, Rev. John Pethtel has chosen to step back from his roles with us. We just want to take a moment to say a big thank you for everything he’s done.
John has impacted Seventh Day Baptists in practical and tangible ways whether you realize it or not. As the Director of Church Development, Director of Pastoral Services, Conference Coordinator, and Crisis Management Officer, John humbly carried a lot. If he wasn’t helping plan Conference Sessions, he might be writing articles to keep our churches in the loop. But more often you would find him supporting pastors and congregations through tough times. A lot of what he did flew under the radar. John was always there, keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes.
What set John apart wasn’t the titles. It was the willingness to sit with a struggling pastor or walk alongside a church whether they were being planted or navigating a tough season. For John all this work was for his Savior, so all the work, whether big or small was personal.
We cannot thank John enough for all the years he has dedicated to leading Seventh Day Baptists,” said General Council Chair, Steve Osborn. “From serving as Conference President to Chair of General Council to 10+ years as a Director, John has worked tirelessly and selflessly to help us become who we are today. We know we are better for having had him as a vital part of our leadership. He will be deeply missed. We wish him the best where God guides him to serve in this next chapter.
John’s ministry extended beyond administrative leadership. He made personal connections with pastors, church leaders, and congregations across the United States, Canada and around the world. He encouraged growth, offered counsel in times of challenge, and championed initiatives that advanced our shared Kingdom work.
As John sets off on his next adventure, we’re sending him off with all our love and gratitude. Thank you John, for putting so much of yourself into this work. The impact you’ve had on our churches is something that will stand the test of time.
We ask that you join us in expressing your thanks to Rev. Pethtel and in praying for God’s continued guidance over the Seventh Day Baptist General Conference as we look ahead together.
