Last week I took a trip to paradise. You may recognize it by the other name it goes by — Longmont, CO. It is a stunningly beautiful place. However, the reason I came was not for the mountains. I came to see the beauty of God’s people gathering together. My purpose was to do an official visit with Frontier Church Longmont. This visit was the last item to be checked off the list of tasks to be completed before they can be considered for membership in the Conference this summer. It is an exciting time in the life of a church to be recognized as a member of the Conference. Pastors Chris Galarneau and Miriam Berg have led their church on a journey which has included big steps of faith, hard work, laughter, tears and so much more.
What a joy and blessing it was to welcome the Sabbath together and to see the great things that God is doing among them! Every Friday night they have a potluck meal together, and I felt right at home. The curried goat (not my usual fare) was a little spicy but not strong enough to keep me away. I had great conversations with old friends and new. The service itself felt fairly typical in format until the sermon, which was not a sermon but an interactive Bible study on Acts 2. Twice during the study we broke into small group discussions and then were able to share our insights with the whole group.
It was such an encouraging time together. One of the questions that we answered in our discussion groups was, “Where is God already at work in your home, workplace, neighborhood, and relationships?” By thinking about where God was already at work, we were then challenged to join him in that work. It was clear to me that God is at work in Frontier Church Longmont. He has brought them together with a strong sense of both unity and mission. I look forward to hearing what the Lord will do in and through them. No, it is not paradise, but I am full of hope and anticipation that God’s Kingdom will advance and touch many lives through the church that he has planted there. Pray with me for the Lord to work powerfully in and through his disciples gathering together as Frontier Church Longmont.
